How to Verify a Garment Accessories Supplier in Bangladesh Before Placing a Bulk Order

Step 1: Check for a Valid Export Registration Certificate

Any legitimate Bangladesh garment accessories exporter must hold a valid Export Registration Certificate (ERC) issued by the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCI&E).

Ask the supplier to provide their ERC number and verify it. A supplier who cannot produce this document is not authorized to export and should be disqualified immediately. The ERC is a basic administrative requirement — its absence is a significant red flag.

Step 2: Verify Certifications Directly

If the supplier claims OEKO-TEX certification, verify it at oeko-tex.com using the certificate number. If they claim GRS, SEDEX, ISO, or other certifications, verify each one through the relevant certification body's official website.

Do not accept images or PDFs of certificates as verification. All major certification bodies provide online verification tools. A certificate that cannot be verified online is either expired or fraudulent.

Step 3: Assess the Machinery

For elastic manufacturers, ask about the brand and model of machinery. Established manufacturers use DAHU Korean machinery or equivalent. For woven belt manufacturers, ask whether they use Swiss Jakob Muller narrow fabric looms.

Machinery quality directly predicts output consistency. A factory running modern, well-maintained machinery of recognised brands is far more likely to deliver consistent bulk production quality than a factory running generic or ageing equipment.

Ask for photos and, if possible, schedule a factory visit or virtual walkthrough of the production floor.

Step 4: Request and Test Samples Rigorously

Never skip the sample stage for a new supplier. Request samples of the specific product you intend to order in bulk, in your exact specification.

Test samples against: dimensional accuracy (width, length, weight), stretch and recovery performance for elastic, tensile strength for belts and tapes, colour fastness and wash performance, and comfort and skin contact performance for products in direct contact with the wearer.

Sample quality is the best predictor of bulk quality, but only if you test samples properly. A visual check is not sufficient.

Step 5: Check Client References

Ask the supplier who their current clients are. A supplier who is reluctant to name any clients should be treated cautiously. Established garment accessories manufacturers in Bangladesh supply recognizable brands — this is verifiable information.

Even after completing steps 1 through 5, start with a smaller bulk order rather than committing to your full volume requirement immediately. This gives you a real-world production quality check before your entire supply is committed.

Establish clear quality specifications, inspection criteria, and a defect tolerance agreement before production begins.
